Life is short.
That’s one little piece of conventional wisdom I’ve stopped believing.
There was a time when that idea served me. It made me think, I’d better start filling my life. I’d better start doing things. You never know. Life could end.
And you hear it all the time.
In the span of the universe, we’re just a blip. A human life is here… and then it’s gone.
But I’m choosing to think differently now.
For me, life doesn’t have to be that way.
As long as you’re intentionally living each day, and you’re filling your minutes, your moments, and your hours with meaningful experiences, something interesting happens.
Life stretches.
Yes, I can look back and ask, Where did it all go? How did my children grow up so fast?
But then I pull back.
I look at all the things I’ve done. All the experiences I’ve had. All the people I’ve loved. All the moments that filled those years.
When you really look at it, it’s a lot.
If you’re living well, if you’re living intentionally, life can be long and wonderful.
Life can be really good.
Goodness isn’t instantaneous. Goodness isn’t a flash.
Goodness is found throughout a life that’s fully lived.
So maybe life isn’t short.
Maybe life is only short if we make it so.
That’s something that’s changed for me.
